Donovan Dahmen, Grand Portage Band of Ojibwe member, will share his traditional ways of wild rice harvesting in this unique, hands-on experience that is only available at Points Unknown. Fee: $995/person. Limit 2 people. Included in this experience is a stay in the guest suite for 2 nights, island camping for one night, all instruction, and participation from harvest to final finished product. You even bring some of the rice that you harvest and process home with you. Just like any Guest Suite guest, you are also invited to immerse yourself in our off-grid lifestyle while here which includes visiting our sled dogs and taking a tour of the beeswax candle workshop. Day 1 – Arrival at Points Unknown any time after 2PM
Day 2 – Drive up to the ricing location. Learn to poll and knock. Make camp on a little island close to the ricing area.
Day 3 – Use the skills you learned on Day 2 to harvest your own wild rice then back to Points Unknown for the night.
Day 4 – Learn the stages of processing your newly harvested wild rice following Ojibwe traditions. Rest in the comfort of the Points Unknown Guest Suite
Day 5 – Goodbyes and departure before lunch.
